In 2019, the municipality of Renkum signed a so-called concession for 20 years for both the sustainability of its public lighting (6300 lampposts) and the ‘smartening’ of its public lighting locations. Based on an external analysis, a rollout plan was made for 200 CityCharge EV charging light poles, together good for 400 charging points for electric cars in the six village centres that fall under the municipality of Renkum (Doorwerth, Heelsum, Heveadorp, Oosterbeek, Renkum and Wolfheze).
Phased approach
In 2023, the phased rollout started with 30 CityCharge EV charging light poles per year until 2030. The municipality of Renkum is therefore not participating in the provincial GORAL tender, which does not provide a facility for installing EV charging points in light poles.
Own rollout
The municipality facilitates its own roll-out that fits in with the policy of CO₂ reduction and combating clutter in public spaces through integration into existing objects instead of installing additional objects.
