Twelve special lampposts are being installed in Renkum. And they are certainly special: they are the only real multifunctional light poles with EV charging point from CityCharge! In addition to the fact that the lanterns provide light, they also function as charging stations for electric cars. In the future, they will even be able to measure air quality and regulate traffic flows. Together with grid operator Liander, we are working on a pilot in which we are testing two setups: multiple light poles connected behind one mains connection and a charging light pole for which we have made an integrated connection and meter to the electricity grid.
The combination of a lamppost and charging station is not new. The implementation, however, is. Where lampposts used to have a box nearby containing some of the technical components, an integrated connection and meter have now been developed that fits exactly into the lamppost. Because the connection is invisibly integrated into the pole, no extra space is required, either underground or above ground. This prevents clutter in the public space and that is what we are aiming for. With this pilot in Renkum, we are conducting research into combining multiple functions in one object using two different setups. By making smart use of a charging station integrated into a lamppost, we can perform our work more efficiently. In this way, only one connection to the power grid is required. This means less work for technicians, less use of materials and less space required. Great developments as far as we are concerned!
